Greater Accra becomes first region to secure full certification of all district development plans

Dr Audrey Smock Amoah

The Greater Accra Region has become the first region in Ghana to fully secure certification for all its district medium-term development plans covering the 2026–2029 period. This means that all 29 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies in the region have had their plans reviewed and approved.

According to officials from the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), this achievement reflects strong coordination, compliance with national planning guidelines, and commitment to proper development processes. The certification confirms that the region’s plans align with national policies and meet required standards.

The NDPC emphasized that having approved plans is important because government spending and projects are evaluated based on these plans. Other regions have been encouraged to follow Greater Accra’s example by submitting timely and well-aligned development plans.

However, authorities also noted that certification is only the first step. The real focus should now be on effective implementation to ensure tangible improvements in areas such as infrastructure, job creation, sanitation, and public services.

Regional leaders described the milestone as both an achievement and a responsibility, stressing their commitment to executing the approved plans efficiently and delivering real development outcomes for residents.
