Hon. Alois Mohl has officially declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Nandom Constituency, pledging to unite the party and lead efforts to reclaim the parliamentary seat in the 2028 general elections.
Making the declaration on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at a gathering attended by NPP delegates, party faithful, some beneficiaries of his support and media representatives, Hon. Mohl said his decision was motivated by his concern for the future of the NPP and the development of Nandom.
Following the reading of his profile, he stated that the time had come for him to offer himself for the parliamentary candidature.
“I have come to the decision to contest, because I care deeply about the future of our great party, and Nandom as a whole.”
He said Nandom needed leadership that listens to the concerns of the people, acts on them and delivers tangible results.
According to him, the NPP is currently experiencing a worrying level of disunity, but he believes the party’s history of resilience provides hope that it can recover under effective leadership.
He said his ultimate objective would be to help reunite the party, reclaim the Nandom parliamentary seat and contribute to the election of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as President in 2029.
“It is possible,” he stressed.
Mohl highlights political experience and grassroots mobilisation

He said his own active involvement intensified in the early 2000s under the leadership of then-Nandom MP Hon. Ambrose Dery, when he embarked on extensive grassroots mobilisation to expand the party’s membership.
Hon. Mohl attributed part of the party’s eventual electoral breakthrough in Nandom to those grassroots mobilisation efforts, particularly the 2008 election, when the NPP won the parliamentary seat for the first time.
He also cited his relationships with traditional leaders and political actors as evidence of his ability to mobilise, persuade and build bridges across political and social divides.
Claims role in Nandom chieftaincy reconciliation
Hon. Mohl further highlighted what he described as his role in helping to reconcile factions within the Nandom chieftaincy.
He recalled that in the mid-2000s, he was approached to help mediate tensions involving factions at the paramountcy level.
According to him, despite the sensitivity of the matter because of his own family connection, he succeeded in securing the support of the various factions.
He also disclosed that he publicly spoke about the reconciliation at the 2026 Kakube Festival grounds. For Hon. Mohl, the experience demonstrates that reconciliation is possible even in difficult circumstances and forms part of the leadership qualities he believes he can bring to the NPP.
Disunity contributed to 2024 defeat
Addressing what he described as the challenges facing the NPP in Nandom, Hon. Mohl said divisions within the party became increasingly visible after the 2012 elections but were not adequately addressed.
He argued that by 2024, the divisions had reached a critical point and contributed to the party’s loss of the parliamentary seat.
“Today, we are all paying the price for this failure to resolve disagreements, when they showed up.”
He maintained that reclaiming the seat remains achievable but would require a change in leadership and a deliberate effort to unite the party.
Quoting the leadership maxim, “Leadership is cause; all other is effect,” he argued that effective leadership must precede the party’s return to electoral success.
Addresses allegations and past disqualification
Hon. Mohl also recounted what he described as years of political attacks and allegations against him within the party.
He said that following his contributions to the party’s grassroots mobilisation, he experienced isolation and ridicule shortly before the 2008 elections.
He further alleged that accusations that he campaigned against NPP parliamentary candidates were levelled against him in 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024.
He also referred to his disqualification from the NPP parliamentary primaries in 2023, describing the circumstances as unfair.
Despite what he described as humiliation, false accusations and political setbacks, he said he remained committed to the NPP rather than abandoning the party.
Calls for unity and peaceful politics
A major theme of his declaration was reconciliation and peaceful political engagement.
Hon. Mohl said his experiences had taught him patience, humility and the need to place the interests of the party above personal grievances.
He promised that, if elected parliamentary candidate, he would work to bring all factions and individuals on board.
He said his approach to politics was based on forgiveness and reaching out to people for the greater good of the party.
Pledges development-focused agenda
Hon. Mohl also outlined a vision for Nandom, with particular attention to agriculture, health, education and social welfare.
He said he had previously contributed to initiatives in these areas and was prepared to do more if given the opportunity to represent the constituency in Parliament.
He argued that his political and national-level connections, experience and expertise could be used to create opportunities for the youth and improve development prospects in Nandom.
Calls on delegates to support his candidature
Concluding his declaration, Hon. Mohl appealed to NPP delegates and supporters to support his bid when the parliamentary primaries are held.
He urged his supporters to communicate what he described as his key strengths to delegates, including his commitment to peace and unity, his ability to forgive, his grassroots experience and his connections within the party.
He also urged delegates to look beyond financial considerations in choosing a parliamentary candidate.
“The contest is not about who has more money, but the one who can create opportunities for you to make your own money.”
He further argued that his national-level connections and experience positioned him to link party members and constituents to opportunities beyond Nandom.
Hon. Mohl described himself as “the sure hope” for reclaiming the Nandom parliamentary seat and urged party members to believe that the seat could be won back.
He concluded by stressing that the NPP rewards long service and loyalty, citing the political journeys of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as examples of individuals whose loyalty and perseverance, he argued, ultimately prevailed over opponents with greater financial resources.
