The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper West Region has elected new regional executives to steer the affairs of the party following elections held at the Wa Technical Institute on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The election saw Alhaji Abdul-Aziz Abdul-Rahaman, popularly known as Chairman White, elected as the Regional Chairman after securing 173 votes against his contender, Kantong Alaska, who polled 86 votes.
Chairman White, who is the current Acting Regional Chairman, took over the leadership of the party following the death of the late S.B. Kangbere, who died while serving as the Regional Chairman.
His election therefore gives him a fresh mandate to formally lead the party at the regional level and oversee its activities and organisational structures across the Upper West Region.
In the Regional Women Organizer contest, Minata Moomen defeated the incumbent, Nancy Dery, to become the new Regional Women Organizer. Minata polled 139 votes, while Nancy Dery obtained 116 votes.
The election also saw Majeed Liman elected as First Vice Chairman with 198 votes, defeating Ali Karim Kamara, who polled 35 votes.
Philip Braimah secured the position of Second Vice Chairman with 166 votes against Wontina Bamutu’s 91 votes.
For the position of Regional Secretary, Dr. Tanko Daniel Dauda emerged victorious with 186 votes. Dr. Agape Dangmah polled 64 votes, while SK Dawud received 9 votes.
Alhassan Suleman was elected Regional Treasurer after polling 160 votes against James Saatiri’s 99 votes.
In the Organiser race, Hamid Saana emerged winner with 138 votes. He was followed by Mustapha Goveir with 75 votes, Issahaku Sulemana with 23 votes and Adama Amadu with 22 votes.
Yussif Alhassan won the Assistant Secretary position with an overwhelming 200 votes, defeating Suleman Benin, who obtained 59 votes.
For Communications, Nana Sadat polled 185 votes to defeat Ali Bukari, who secured 74 votes.
Alhaji Muniru emerged as Nasara Organizer with 179 votes against Alhaji Jalilu’s 80 votes.
The Youth Organizer position went to Dodoo Sadat, who secured 158 votes. Insah Kelle Haki obtained 71 votes, Suleman Yahaya 17 votes and Amidu Ridwan 13 votes.
The newly elected executives are expected to take responsibility for strengthening the NPP’s organisational structures, mobilising party members and supporters, and coordinating the party’s activities across the region.
The election has also formally positioned Chairman White at the helm of the Upper West Regional NPP leadership following his period as Acting Regional Chairman after the passing of the late Kangbere.
