The Lambussie District Assembly has disbursed funds from the Disability Fund to a total of 156 beneficiaries in the district, as part of efforts to support Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to improve their livelihoods.
The disbursement ceremony brought together key district officials, including the District Chief Executive (DCE), the Deputy District Coordinating Director, the District Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, the District Finance Officer, members of the media, and other stakeholders.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Iraneous Basingbie, emphasized the importance of the fund in improving the lives of persons with disabilities. He noted that the government remains committed to supporting PWDs and has made funds available to enable them to engage in meaningful economic activities.
“The government of Ghana has made funding available to be disbursed to you to work and take care of yourselves and your families,” he stated. He encouraged beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely in viable small-scale businesses to ensure sustainable income.
He also conveyed apologies on behalf of the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Titus Beyuo, who was unable to attend the event due to parliamentary duties in Accra, but reaffirmed the MP’s commitment to ensuring that the funds reach beneficiaries to support their business ideas.
The District Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, Mr. Seidu Amadu advised beneficiaries to used the fund for the intended purposes. This he said, we improve their livelihood and ensure that they are given room in decision-making platforms to amplify their voices. He also added that they are the first batch of beneficiaries and therefore should not come to the office again when funds are being disbursed for the second batch.
Beneficiaries who spoke at the event expressed gratitude to the government and the District Assembly for the support. One beneficiary, Wasu Wihara Keting, said the gesture was highly appreciated and called on government not to relent in supporting persons with disabilities.
“This support that government is giving to us is highly appreciated, and we thank government so much. We also appeal that government should not stop supporting us,” the beneficiary said.
Another beneficiary, Wibomor Rebecca Kasinbie, also expressed appreciation, noting that the intervention would go a long way to improve their living conditions. She offered prayers for the district authorities and stakeholders for their continued efforts in supporting vulnerable groups.
The Disability Fund, which is sourced from the District Assemblies Common Fund, is intended to provide financial assistance to persons with disabilities to help them start or expand businesses, acquire vocational skills, and improve their overall quality of life.
