Sonzele Community Bank Meets BoG Capital Requirement, Announces Loan Support for College and Nursing Students

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sonzele Community Bank PLC, Hon. Abdul-Salam Bamie, has disclosed that the bank is performing well in its operations and has met the Bank of Ghana’s minimum capital requirement of GH¢500,000,000.

He made this disclosure during an interview on Sonzele Hour, a radio programme hosted by James Baba Anabiga on Lambussie 97.7 FM on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

According to him, although the bank has achieved the required minimum capital threshold, management remains committed to expanding its customer base and improving its services.

He therefore called on the public to become customers of the bank by purchasing shares or subscribing to any of its products and services.

Hon. Bamie explained that becoming a shareholder of Sonzele Community Bank PLC comes with several benefits, including the right to attend the bank’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), where major decisions concerning its operations are taken.

He further stated that shareholders are eligible to contest for positions on the bank’s Board, receive dividends at the end of the banking year, access loans and enjoy the benefits of being part-owners of the financial institution.

The CEO also highlighted the bank’s commitment to supporting farmers through various financial products, particularly agricultural loans.

He encouraged farmers to visit any of the bank’s branches in Jirapa, Lambussie, Nadowli, Hain and Bussie to explore available products and invest their money wisely for financial returns and other associated benefits.

Touching on support for students, Hon. Bamie disclosed that the bank offers loans to students in Colleges of Education and Nursing Training Colleges who receive government training allowances.

He explained that the facility is designed to ease the financial burden on eligible students while they await their allowances, after which they can repay the loans gradually.

He consequently encouraged students in the two categories of tertiary institutions to open accounts with the bank and take advantage of the facility.

Meanwhile, the Lambussie Branch Manager of Sonzele Community Bank PLC, Mrs. Prota Sullo, has urged community susu groups to save their contributions with the bank rather than keeping their money in traditional susu boxes, popularly known as “Dagabile”.

She cautioned that keeping large sums of money in such boxes exposes susu groups to the risk of theft, explaining that thieves could easily break into the boxes without necessarily having the keys, resulting in the loss of members’ contributions.

Mrs. Sullo said saving with the bank would provide susu groups with a safer way of keeping their money and reduce the risk of losing their collective savings.

She also disclosed that the bank offers loan facilities to salaried workers, urging interested individuals to visit any of its branches for information on the requirements and procedures for accessing the loans.

The bank’s management has, therefore, reiterated its commitment to providing accessible financial services to farmers, students, salaried workers, susu groups and the general public while encouraging more people to become part of the Sonzele Community Bank PLC.
