Panelists on Day Break Upper West, a morning show on Lambussie FM, have shared differing perspectives on governance, youth development, and anti-corruption efforts during a recent discussion.
Mr. Musah Mahama, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication Officer for the Lambussie Constituency, stated that although the call by President John Dramani Mahama for the passage of a Code of Conduct for Public Officers is commendable, it may not be a pressing priority at the moment.
He further argued that youth intervention policies in Ghana did not begin with the current administration, noting that such initiatives date back to the era of former President John Agyekum Kufuor. According to him, it is important for the current government to acknowledge previous efforts rather than take full credit for youth-focused programs.
On the other hand, Mr. David Boon, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Organizer for Lambussie, emphasized the need for young people to take advantage of government-led youth intervention policies. He indicated that such programs are crucial in tackling unemployment and reducing the risk of drug abuse among the youth.
Mr. Boon also praised President Mahama’s directive requiring government appointees to declare their assets upon assuming office in 2025. He described the move as a strong indication of the President’s commitment to reducing corruption and promoting transparency in public service.
The two penalties, however, held a consensus view that the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, has not shown enough commitment to tackling the xenophobic attacks in his country.
