Hon. Alois Mohl, a public administrator, social development expert and long-standing member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially declared his intention to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries in the Nandom Constituency.

His profile was read by Magnus Innocent Der, a former Headmaster of Nandom Senior High School, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the CHALICE Hall in Nandom, where Mr. Mohl formally announced his bid to represent the NPP in the constituency.

According to the profile, Hon. Mohl has more than 30 years of experience in Ghana’s public service and has worked extensively in public administration, social development, training and development, and monitoring and evaluation.

He rose through the ranks of the public service to become a Director before moving into frontline politics. His professional career has largely focused on social protection and child protection, with responsibilities spanning national programmes and institutions.

Public Service Experience

One of the major highlights of Mr. Mohl’s public service career was his appointment by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund (SIF).

During his time at the SIF, he was credited with supporting development projects in Nandom, including a six-unit classroom block at Dondometeng. The facility comprises classrooms, a staff common room and store, a headmaster’s office and store, as well as a computer laboratory equipped with computers and a projector.

He also supported the development of an electrical workshop for Nandom Technical School, which, according to the profile, is currently under construction.

Before his appointment to the SIF, Mr. Mohl served in several positions within Ghana’s social development sector. These included National Coordinator of Ghana’s Care Reforms Initiative, Head of the International Social Services Desk, Head of the Not-for-Profit Organisations Desk and Head of the Early Childhood Development Centres Desk.

His responsibilities included the registration, licensing, monitoring and evaluation of institutions and organisations, as well as capacity building for caregivers, managers and other stakeholders.

He also served as a resident consultant on a Ghana-Italy joint project focused on institutional capacity building and livelihood skills development for street-connected children.

He also holds a Certificate in Social Work from the School of Social Work in Osu.

His professional development has taken him beyond Ghana, with training programmes in Israel, the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, Ethiopia and South Africa.

Among the areas covered by his international training are violence against women and children, not-for-profit organisation management, international adoption practices, labour reporting on children involved in hazardous work, child protection capacity building and care reform.

He currently works as a Resident Consultant for two international organisations, including AD Consult Ltd and Faith Child Protection Agency.

Long-standing NPP Involvement

Beyond his professional career, Mr. Mohl has been involved in the activities of the NPP for several years, holding positions at constituency, regional and national levels.

He has also served as Vice Chairman of the then Lawra/Nandom Constituency, Member Secretary of the 2007 Presidential Primaries Committee, Member Secretary of the National Disciplinary Committee and Chairman of the Upper West Regional Disciplinary Committee.

He was also involved in the campaign of former NPP Member of Parliament for Nandom and former Interior Minister Ambrose Dery between 2005 and 2008.

He also served on national and regional campaign teams, elections monitoring teams and the post-2008 elections review team.

He is also a member of the NPP’s 2028 national campaign team on the Local Government and Decentralisation Policy Committee and Member Secretary of the National Settler Communities Campaign Team.

Support for Constituents and the NPP

Mr. Mohl’s political activities have been accompanied by financial and material support to constituents, party activists and community members.

Since 2019, he is said to have provided Christmas packages consisting of rice, cooking oil and money to polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, constituency executives, council of elders, patrons and selected elderly and vulnerable residents.

He supported constituents in areas including school fees, medical expenses, agricultural inputs, tractor services, petty trading, vocational training, livelihood support and repairs of bicycles and motorbikes.

Hon. Alois has assisted individuals with housing and land-related expenses, supported widows and single mothers with clothing and food items, and contributed towards the payment of bride price for some beneficiaries.

His support for the NPP has also reportedly extended beyond Nandom. He  contributed financially towards the construction of the Upper West Regional NPP office, providing air conditioners for the facility and furnishing the party’s regional youth office.

Community and Development Interventions

Mr. Mohl’s profile also highlights a number of community interventions, including co-funding the construction of a volleyball court in Nandom, donating football jerseys and footballs to youth groups, and supporting the Nandom Constituency executives financially between 2011 and 2015.

He is also credited with supporting youth camps popularly known as “Parliaments” in Nandom between 2005 and 2008 and adopting 10 polling stations for financial support during the 2016 elections.

He also helped constituents secure employment in institutions including Ghana Water Limited, the Audit Service, security services, the Local Government Service, Ghana Health Service and Ghana Education Service.

A Candidate Presented as an Experienced Negotiator

In presenting the profile, Magnus Innocent Der portrayed Mr. Mohl as a politician whose extensive public service and international exposure have equipped him with experience in negotiation, lobbying and public administration.

He indicated that Hon. Alois’s years of working with government institutions and international organisations have given him networks that could be useful in attracting development opportunities to Nandom.

He also emphasised his longstanding relationship with the NPP and claimed that he has direct access to senior party figures, including the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Nandom Parliamentary Contest

Hon. Alois Mohl’s declaration adds another dimension to the NPP’s parliamentary contest in Nandom as the party prepares for its internal electoral process.

His supporters are presenting his more than three decades of public service, extensive political experience, academic qualifications, international exposure and record of community and party support as the basis for his candidature.

With this rich profile, Alois Mohl now formally enters the race, seeking the mandate of NPP delegates to become the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Nandom Constituency.
