Government Distributes Fertilizer Under Feed Ghana Initiative in Lambussie District

The Government of Ghana has distributed over 370 bags of fertilizer to peasant farmers in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region as part of the Feed Ghana Initiative, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and improving livelihoods.

The presentation took place at the premises of the Lambussie District Assembly and brought together key stakeholders, including traditional authorities, government officials, and farmer representatives.

Speaking at the event, the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Dennis Menance Bayuo who represented the District Chief Executive, and the Paramount Chief of Lambussie urged farmers to make good use of the support. He emphasized that soil fertility in the area remains a challenge and that the proper application of fertilizer is essential for improved yields.

“Our land is not very fertile, and without fertilizer, farmers may not achieve good harvests. We encourage beneficiaries to use the fertilizer on their farms and not sell it, so that both the farmers and the government can benefit,” he stated.

The District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Nathaniel Zim-meeweh Nambie, also advised farmers to apply the fertilizer effectively to achieve positive outcomes. He noted that responsible use of the inputs would encourage government to extend similar support to more farmers in the future.

He further expressed appreciation to the government and called for favorable weather conditions to ensure a successful farming season.

The District Focal Person for Peasant Farmers, Mr. David Balisosi Baloroo, commended the collaborative efforts of the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament in ensuring that farmers benefit from the initiative. He also acknowledged the role of the Peasant Farmers Association and the Minister for Food and Agriculture in facilitating the intervention.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Mary Steller Porekuu expressed gratitude to the government for the timely support. She noted that the fertilizer would significantly improve their farming activities but appealed for increased quantities in subsequent distributions.

The fertilizer distribution forms part of the broader Feed Ghana Initiative, a government programme designed to strengthen the agricultural sector, support small holder farmers, and enhance food security across the country.
