MTN Ghana to Deploy 17 New Cell Sites in Upper West Region Before End of 2026

MTN Ghana has announced plans to deploy 17 new cell sites in the Upper West Region before the end of 2026 as part of efforts to improve network coverage and service quality.

The Network Officer for MTN North, Mr. Augustine Angliere Kontoma, disclosed this at a Media and Stakeholder Forum held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at Dellagio Hotel in Wa.

The forum brought together media practitioners from across the Upper West Region, representatives of the Ghana Police Service, the National Communications Authority (NCA), the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), and other stakeholders.

Delivering the keynote address, MTN Ghana’s Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, Mr. Joseph Dogbe, said the company had invested $1.1 billion over a three-year period to enhance its network capacity, improve service quality and strengthen the resilience of its infrastructure to meet growing demand.

He noted that $380 million  had been invested in 2026 alone, adding that the company was deploying 500 new cell sites nationwide to improve network coverage.

Mr. Kontoma explained that the Upper West Region would benefit from 17 of the new cell sites before the end of the year, a move expected to strengthen connectivity and improve access to telecommunications services in the region.

Mr. Dogbe also disclosed that MTN Ghana had paid GH¢5.6 million in direct and indirect taxes during the first half of 2026, describing the company as a tax-compliant entity.

As MTN Ghana marks 30 years of operations, he expressed appreciation to customers and stakeholders for their continued trust and support throughout the company’s three decades of service.

Despite the investments and expansion plans, Mr. Dogbe identified access, affordability, digital ability and relevant skills as challenges that needed sustained attention to ensure that more people could benefit from digital services.

He emphasised the importance of addressing these barriers to promote wider participation in the digital economy.

The forum provided an opportunity for MTN Ghana to engage the media and other stakeholders on its operations, infrastructure investments and the challenges affecting telecommunications services.
