Minority’s Call for Kofi Adams’ Dismissal Premature – Hanabe Moses

A communications team member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lambussie Constituency, Mr. Hanabe Moses, has described calls by the Minority in Parliament for the dismissal of the Minister for Sports, Mr. Kofi Adams, as premature, arguing that an allegation does not amount to a conviction.

Speaking on Lambussie FM’s morning show, Day Break Upper West, Mr. Moses maintained that the Sports Minister should not be dismissed solely on the basis of allegations, insisting that clear evidence must first be established against him.

According to him, President John Dramani Mahama would not hesitate to dismiss the minister if credible evidence of wrongdoing emerged.

He argued that the President would act decisively without waiting for pressure from the Minority or other political actors.

Mr. Moses contrasted the current situation with the handling of allegations involving former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, questioning the approach taken in that case.

He further alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had been hoping for a scandal involving the NDC government since it assumed office but had not found one. He suggested that the controversy surrounding the Sports Minister was being seized upon by the opposition for political advantage.

Mr. Moses also linked the Minority’s demand for the minister’s dismissal to what he described to cover up concerns surrounding the election of a “macho man” as First Vice President to defend ballot papers, alleging that the opposition was using the sports controversy to divert attention from the issue.

He urged the Minority and the NPP to exercise restraint and allow the matter to be assessed on the basis of evidence rather than political pressure.

His comments come amid calls by the opposition for action against the Sports Minister over allegations surrounding him. The minister’s position and any response from the Minority would be necessary to provide a fuller account of the controversy.

Mr. Moses reiterated that the President should be allowed to handle the matter based on the available evidence, stressing that any established wrongdoing should attract decisive action.
